Default Visibility through Yahoo?

As a relative novice I hear all the time that our website has to appeal to Google search but what are the differences? If a site is picked up and ranked by one, why not the others? Do they all not try to emulate what Google does as it appears to be the leader?

Confused from Manilva!

I think in general as google is the market leader you are going to find that the chances are that google will put your product in front of more potential viewers and google as the brand is far more know than the other search engines.

We used to receive a lot of business and traffic from the other two search engines but since we have ranked better in google the traffic has increased considerably with most of it coming through google.

I don't think that they would completely copy google, as you need to be different otherwise what is the point of using a different search engine which runs more or less exactly the same.

Plus it is good for visitors as they bring up different search results in all of the search engines giving varied sites, it would be boring for a web surfer seeing exactly the same results where ever you go?

Thanks for that; it just always baffles me. We are Property Brokers not SEO's and it is an area which is vitally important to all of us and yet shrouded in mystery. Perhaps to protect the SEO' s enormous fees? Who knows..

Default Nothing's easy!

I am not a professional but I have had a certain amount of success.

One thing I can say is that SEO is incredibly time consuming, especially at the beginning, and really rewarding when you achieve something. I don't believe in programmes that analyse your site and tell you what you are doing wrong. The only way is to learn the basics and put them into practice, then it is a question of continual research in order to stay ahead of the whims and fancies of Google & Co.

A good SEO engineer is always ahead but his services don't come cheap!

Google provides 50-odd% of all searches. Currently none of the others do more than 25% Generally, if you can score with Big-G then you don't do badly with the others.
Perhaps it won't always be like that but, right now, Big_G semms to go from strength to strength. Watch for Google Local!

The best way to learn is from your competitors seeing what they are doing right and using what works well for them and putting it into practice on your own website.

Like Homefinder rightly said, you need to learn the basics first which you can do by researching in google, then use this first to get the basics right - there are thousands of resources online to help you learn and do it yourself.

SEO professionals - there are not many in Spain, they say they are but don't get the work done. We lucky have got one that works really well and we have got the results that we want from him and he is not expensive either.

Default Now that is interesting.

I looked at your sites before and saw that they were doing quite well but I thought that you did your own optimisation. You would be well advised not to tell your guy about the Forum, otherwise he could be so busy that you might not see him again.
