Default div or frame

I know that if you use >div< in your site your page will be better for SEO. But making a site with div is more difficult than making one with frames, or it is more expansive. What site do you have?

I find that div tags give you much more freedom with design style over frames. Once you get used to coding with div tags you will find them more useful.

Default the downside of frames

As a web app developer I am often asked to add functionality to websites and it is much more difficult with frames.

However in this line of business, I would suggest their main drawback is there comparative incompatability with search engines. Many search engines cannot index properly pages containing frames. This means a viewer may be able to access the main content frame without the menu frame or header frame etc and this makes the website look confused to say the least.

It is also difficult to bookmark framed pages which again, I would think is important to you.

Where search engines are important, I would avoid frames.

If you are using frames on a web site developed after about 2004 and you have any interest in getting found in the search engines, then you do not know what you are doing. Simply put: DO NOT USE FRAMES - EVER!

EVER!

Unless you don't care about people bookmarking your site or finding it in the search engines.

And you should look into PHP and file include if you would like to include for instance a menu on all your pages.

Hi Soren, long long long time no see or hear for that matter!

Where have you been?

Yep, has been a big no no for a long time frames, about 3 years ago I took over a website for an agent to promote and his site was built in frames.

When you looked in the search engines trying to do some research on his website, the site did come up (on the 18th page!) but without the side navigation, the header, the footer....

He doesn't use my services anymore (personal reasons, you would understand if I told you!) and he has gone back to his old web designer this year, and guess what? The lovely frames are back, he has lost all of his high SERP's and his online business has more or less disappeared from the face of the earth!

Here is a good example of how frames can destroy your online business. See if you can get to any other page from this!

Hi Richie!

I have been very busy. We have developed another few sites (non property ones) and then we are working hard on launching a new SEO related site.

Nope, but when I do I will post it here. I have basically had the idea of a lifetime and it is so powerful that I believe Google eventually will have to change their algorithm. Seriously! I am not delutional! And the reason is once we go public anyone who adopts the idea will climb the rankings very fast - and we will make it free for anyone to do so!!!

Stay tuned!
