Most European ski resort are changing, they should probably be called multi activity centers because skiing is invariably only one of the activities on offer during the winter months.
The Sierra Nevada in southern Spain is a typical example. Apart from the 87 kilometers of piste, cross country skiing and nursery, green, blue, red and black slopes, the resort offers so much more. You can take a husky ride or go ice skating, tobogganing, or be launched down a slope in an inner tube; if all that sounds too energetic there is a sports club available with a gymnasium, swimming pool and a sports hall with massage, physio, sauna and a solarium.
Within the resort village you will find dozens of restaurants, bars and hotels. The Vincci Seleccion Rumaykiyya is the only 5 star hotel in Sierra Nevada and is the highest hotel in Europe with direct access to the slopes. However, the 4 star Melia Sol y Nieve Facilities includes a sauna, solarium, Turkish baths, swimming pools and a massage service.
With enough facilities to keep the whole family amused year after year, it’s a destination well worth considering for a holiday home, but is this an affordable option?
