We had another thread some where a couple of weeks back that we had some comments on - some where on the forum about internal link building - but another link building exercise that I have seen a hell of a lot of from a certain Spanish property website (not the forum!) is purchasing dozens of domain names, setting them up on different hosts with different IPs and link building for one domain.

In a way they are just link farms or scrapper sites as they have no real human revelance - but solely built in the aim of building back links to one domain name and doing it extremely fast.

The problem being is that there is only so much that you can write on a day to day basis and these blogs / websites are repeating content from site to site, none of these blogs really accept any comments, I have tried to post a dozen or so comments or the space of a month or two and revisited them to see if any comments have been accepted and displayed - but nothing has been.

With links now becoming hard to come by, too many nofollow tag plug ins and link exchanging long long out the window, linking to yourself in this way may be one of the best ways to quickly link build for your domain / website.

The biggest problem with comments on blog I have found is finding the genuine from the spam...in the end its quite easy to missa genuine remark about a blogpost and it just gets lost.
if your site has a wordpress blog set up...just keep adding content to it with internal links to your important pages.
If you write good stuff other sites will pick up your feed and you'll get the benefit of the links...at the least you will get a link to the blogpost..
Add your blog to the usual lists of directories etc and build its reputation and it will increase the value of the internal links you have built into your blogposts...

P.S. I will always publish good material and give a link on the amla blog...just PM me or send me a mail..

And as far as I know, it is one of the sure ways to get pulled up by google...

It is not a practice that should be encouraged.

Obviously if the sites were completely different, but giving niche advice, then linked back to the main website. Then there may be benefit, but still I would question it.

Being that the setting up of now websites for the purpose of link building would carry no weight... as the domain name would be to young, there would be no links into the 'websites' which means total lack of authority.

Then before you now it you have a link farm...or too many links from one source which is then discounted by Google.
