• Tarragona is the capital city of the province, and a major city along the Costa Dorada. It has a lot of history, dating back to Roman times and still contains many historical sites.

• It was originally named Torraco by the Romans, and was an important city in the region. There are still many historical landmarks in the city, such as the remains of one of the first roads, Via Augustus, a big circus which was used for chariot racing, an amphitheatre and much more. One of the biggest landmarks that was also built by the Romans is the original water viaduct known as the Puente del Diablo, because a legend depicts that it was built by the Devil after winning a bet in which a fair lady bet her soul. Originally it is 25 kms in length, most parts of its wall still stand and you can still walk along the top of it. Also there are many museums, which are orientated around the city's history. The most popular is the Archaeological Museum, which illustrates the Romanisation of the Iberia Peninsula.

• Tarragona is home to a beautiful beach; El Miracle. It is a fine golden sanded beach, with smooth sand and sparkling waters. The port of Tarragona is surrounded by quaint restaurants. Some of them have their own fishing boats which go out daily and serve the fish they catch in the restaurant in the evenings; it is a dining experience not to be missed! Every year the people of Tarragona and its surrounding towns celebrate special fiestas that mainly contribute to the history of this magnificent region.

• This city does offer plenty of things to do and see, and as you can imagine some very upmarket boutiques for the ladies and very high class shops for the gentlemen. In this country, Spain, stopping to have coffee is a part of life, so all through Tarragona there are numerous cafes, some very fashionable and some just your typical Spanish bar, but most of these places when you have a drink they offer you delicious tapas (food tasters) for free.

• Tarragona is a fast paced city and all of its homes are high rises so if you're a city lover this is the place for you. But many of the apartments on the outskirts of Tarragona are 3-4 floors offering views to some of the wonderful monuments that are still standing.
