• Los Alcazares, a holiday resort in the Spanish region of Murcia, is located on the shores of the Mar Menor. This jewel of the Costa Calida is the largest salt water lake in Europe, partially separated from the Mediterranean sea by a strip of land known as La Manga.
• It has been a holiday resort for many years - it was used by the Moors who stayed in their residences - 'Al-Kazars' while they enjoyed the therapeutic qualities of the Mar Menor waters. It is still widely regarded as the premier resort on the Costa Calida, very popular with Spanish nationals and increasingly with foreign visitors.

• In common with much of the Spanish coastline Los Alcazares has recently seen an accelerated rate of development; however unlike other coastal resorts this development has been carefully planned and managed. Learning from the best and the worst of the other Costas, the town council added restrictions on the type and height of new properties and renovations. This means that the town has a low level feel to it, with many areas of the town benefiting from new attractive park areas, wide boulevards and good commercial facilities.
• Driving through the town you will see it has distinctively different areas. The more modern northern end (which includes its smaller neighbour Los Narejos) has seen most development during the past seven years. Here you will find a good choice of quality properties with pools and gardens, and thriving new commercial areas offering menus from all corners of the world. The central and southern parts of Los Alcazares house the 'old town' where you will find traditional restaurants, shops and bars. This is the location of the oldest building in Los Alcazares, Hotel La Encarnacion. Built on the sea front at the beginning of the 20th century it houses original thermal baths and a wonderfully atmospheric restaurant. The most southerly tip of the town is now undergoing careful development with a fantastic choice of new townhouses, apartments, villas and high quality resident & tourist facilities.
• The star of Los Alcazares is of course its beach. There are nine kilometres of white sand, lined by a pedestrian boulevard and numerous beach bars and cafes. The sea here is fantastic for youngsters as it is shallow, warm and very safe for bathing. There is a great choice of water sports - jet skiing, kite surfing, sailing and snorkelling. For those who love the underwater life a short drive takes you to a fascinating marine reserve where you can explore ship wrecks and craggy under water coves to your hearts content.

• Keeping fit in Los Alcazares is very easy as the roads and walk-ways are flat, so both walking and cycling are safe and enjoyable. It has recently been announced that a cycle way is being developed around the whole of the Mar Menor passing through Los Alcazares.
• For golfers Los Alcazares is not only the ideal golf base, but also offers a great choice of golf properties. At either end of the town sit brand new, top quality golf resorts with fantastic courses and luxury golf property for sale. It is no tale that this area is being called the new 'Costa del Golf' - Los Los Alcazares alone has at least nine more courses within a short drive, including the famous La Manga club courses.
• Shopaholics are not disappointed by Los Los Alcazares. Los Alcazares & Los Narejos host markets on Saturday and Tuesday offering a great range of local produce, clothing and fancy goods. Fifteen minutes away is Cartagena which has a brand new shopping complex plus traditional shopping streets. For the boutique lover a 25 minute drive to Murcia city is a must, a real shopper's paradise.

• Getting to Los Alcazares s couldn't be easier. Murcia (San Javier) airport is only five minutes away and served by low cost airlines from across the UK. Alicante airport is 50 minutes away and soon their will be a new Murcia airport (Corvera) 25 minutes from Los Alcazares.
