Early last week Google removed two important factors from its Webmaster Guidelines:

• Have other relevant sites link to yours.

• Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites.

So what does this mean? Has Google finally cut out linking and paid linking from its search engine strategies for webmasters?

Is it the end of big directories such as Yahoo! and Open Directory Project?

What is the thinking behind this? Are they up to something that we don't know about yet?
