Valencia is waiting to become the motoring focus of the world when over 500 million spectators will witness the first
European Formula 1 Grand Prix around its streets and harbour on the
Valencia Street Circuit, to be held between the 22nd and 24th of August, 2008.
This is a new event in the Formula 1 calendar, with Valencia offering the amazing backdrop of its
Port Americas Cup, which was purposely designed to host the 32nd Americas cup in 2007, as the setting for this, also purposely designed, urban circuit.
Thanks to the experience gained through the hosting of important sporting events like the
Americas Cup,
Moto GP World Championship,
World Superbike Championship and the
IAFF World Indoor Athletics Championship, Valencia is well prepared to offer a spectacular Grand Prix.
Valencia is able to offer visitors more than just the European Grand Prix, with the charm and tradition of the old quarter of the City, the spectacular architecture of the City of Arts and Sciences, Malvarrosa beach with its palm tree lined promenade of restaurants, bars and clubs, the Mediterranean cuisine, and a huge nightlife scene with open-air discos and terraces open until the early hours of the morning.
"The agreement is for the next seven years, which will be the first of 50 years of Formula 1 in Valencia" were the words used by Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One Management CEO, when he sealed the agreement for the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe to be held in the city of Valencia in August 2008.
Valencia is considered the ideal city for holding such big events due to the openness of the city and excellent communications by land, sea and air and will now have a spectacular modern street circuit.
