Default new couple to forum

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi everyone
we are a couple from uk looking to move into the moriara/calpe area.
we have some friends who live on the coast road and are opening there new cafe this thursday 16/10/08 in calpe called the NEWS CAFE at central plaza.
due to both our marriges breaking up we have had a very tough year and now just want to start a new life for ourselves on the costa blanca.
we would be very greatful if anyone knows of anyone who needs help within there business as this would give us a start. we are looking to learn some spanish and are very keen to be able to do this as quickly as we can.once we have both settled our divorces we are looking to start a business ourselves but in the meantime we would be willing to work with someone as a couple or indepently , as long as we can earn enough to live on.

we would also welcome any news of property for rent in the area so we can get the ball rolling.

anyway hope to hear back from some fellow brits and look forward to making new friends soon.

regards all

john (39) and barbara (38)

Hi John and Barbie

Welcome to the Costa Blanca Forum. I see you took my advice and posted an introduction here. You should really post your profiles but I'll do that for your as per your profile on SREF-

Quote:
I myself am a qualified HGV driver and transport manager and also a baker but can lend my hand to most things and pick up new skills quite easily so would relesh any new challenge if anyone has heard of anything going.
My partner Barbara is very multi skilled within distribution/logistics management and also is currently managing a retail newsagents. she has also ran bars in her past so is very capable of turning her hand to most things.
May I offer some advice -

The Spanish economy is falling apart!
You previously posted to the SREF and real estate people are generally fireing and not hireing. Other businesses, particularly in the Costa Blanca North area are simply not hireing.
If you think that quality of life is what it is all about then perhaps you have already realised that Spain has a lot to offer.

Your posts here might produce something but best not to rely on that. The best way is to come to the Costa Blanca and "put yourself about" because there is nothing like face to face contact.
What you have in your favour is that your skills are not related to real estate because that is going to be "up the creek" for a bit.
There is still a valid economy around the Moraira area. There are 10,000's of properties, owned by mainly by Brits, that have to be maintained and rented. The resulting "labour force" needs to eat etc. and is still earning enough to afford the little "luxuries" of life.

Come out and have a look round! A few weeks, a month or even longer if you can spare the time. Post a request for a long let in the property section of the Costa Blanca Forum it's FREE!
If you do decide to come out then I'll keep an eye out for a long let for you as well.

Another way to get know before you get here is to join in forum discussions - but put this post in your signature so that anyone interested can see what you do.

Best of luck!

Hi John and Barbara.

Good luck with your move. If you do decide to come here it is a lovely place to live. My Partner and two teenage boys moved here about two years ago and we love it. It is not easy to find work though. There are a lot of people looking for the same jobs. You say you were a baker. An English bakery would go down a storm here. They Spanish just can't seem to make good cakes! Their paistries are fine but cake. RUBBISH! We live near Pepi la Salon the coast road and shop there most days, but we soon learn not to buy their cakes. They are nearly always way past there best and even if you do manage to get a fresh one, they are just not good.
As for a flat , My mother in law has a small one bedroom flat to rent near the coast road, It is fairly basic but nice. She would be happy to do a long let. If you would like more details let me know.
Anyway, welcome, If you have any questions about anything I am happy to help, and it would be nice to meet you when you arrive.

Debra

Perhaps another idea for John and Barbara - send a private message to MikeinSpain and Gregor. If you look in the jobs section of this forum you will see that these two members run employment agencies for English speakers and offer a selection of jobs there, perhaps they know of an opening for an HGV driver.

Linka - I am quite surprised that you should say that. Don´t you find them very expensive? I prefer Mas y Mas.
Another thing: Don´t you think that we have an incredible number of supermarkets for such a small town? I am wondering how they will all survive. There are almost as many as there are banks and we all know that lots of the banks will have to close now.

Yes,Masy Mas is a cheaper for somethings and their bakery section is far better. I tend to do most of our shopping in Benissa at Mercadona Lidl and Iceland, but being a women of very little brain I forget things and seeing Pepi's is the nearest thats where I end up. Also I am quite fond of their Lyria wine and its only 1.47.A bargain! Oh and they and Mercadona are the only supermarkets that sell Nescafe Espresso. We like that the best!

Linka, You should not under-rate yourself by saying that you are a "woman of very little brain" I am a mere man but would never admit something like that.
Nevertheless, I often forget to eat and wonder why I am hungry, go home to eat and find that I have forgotten to get the shopping, go out and find that I´m too late because everywhere has stopped serving.
Just listen to me, it´s easy -

thimk postivly!

Oh dear! You must be very skinny indeed. It sounds like you need a good women or perhaps a slave? I never have the forgetting to make food problem as I am always beind told 'I'm hungry, whens /Lunch/dinner. It costs a fortune. The price of food has gone up so much. The cooking oil I buy in Lidl was 75 cents when we moved here its now 1.38. (I'm not obsessed with cooking oil, I just happened to notice the rise) Hopefully it willstart to drop soon.
As for me saying i'm a women of very little brain, it only applies to boring jobs. My mind is always somewhere else. Thats what happens to creative people!

ColinS - I really appreciate that but I would prefer that you did not show your appreciation on a public forum - just sent me a private message 'cos I'm a bit shy actually.

Seriously, lets change the subject or I'll have to close the thread.
