I was told by a lawyer that under no circumstances (except perhaps when there are issues of health and safety) can any pine tree be felled in Moraira/Teulada. But of course he, and I, could be wrong.

I can state quite definitely and from experience that this is not just a rumour.
Several months ago I was asked by a villa owner client to attend at his property with the keys and meet a representative from the Town Hall.
It seemed that he had had his garden extensively landscaped by Paichi Garden Centre, several pines trees where removed and replaced by mature olive trees.
The inspection was carried out, after a certain period, to ensure that the new trees were surviving and so that he could get his deposit (fianza) back.
I know no more than that. perhaps I should talk to the Town hall.
