I have to agree with Toni, I think Valencia is a fantastic place to live. I’ve been in Spain a little over 4 years, 3 of those in Valencia. The city has changed so much in the last years with numerous restaurants, bars, shops, you name it being constructed what seem like every day. Like Toni says it’s got great beaches, and now of course due to the Americas Cup the port area has been completely refurbished and features some fantastic restaurants and nightspots. The old city itself is lovely, it retains a lot of its cultural heritage in its gothic and modern architecture, and has some great museums with numerous exhibitions. I am personally a big fan of El Carmen and its narrow streets and overhanging buildings, it’s very dynamic and has a great atmosphere. I myself live in Ruzafa which with the new facelift they are giving it should resemble something like west end London in the future. A great vantage point regards Valencia is that everywhere in the centre is within walking distance, long gone are the days of taking the metro if you live centrally.
I myself haven’t been to as many places as I would like in Spain, however Granada and Galicia are a few of my favourites. Barcelona is a great city, I was there for a year, but the house prices are outrageous (250% of the national average). I personally feel that we are going to see some big changes here in Valencia with the Formula 1 next year and the Americas Cup the following year. Watch this space!
